You are welcome to email, ring or text Hannah at any time, including evenings and weekends – she may not always answer, but if you leave a message she'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Reverend Hannah Alderson

Lazenby Chaplain (Anglican / Church of England)

Hannah studied Theology at Exeter from 2005 to 2008. She thinks this isn’t a very long time ago, and is slowly coming to terms with the fact that it is.

She trained for Ordination at Ripon College Cuddesdon, and was ordained Deacon in 2013 and Priest in 2014, serving her Curacy in the Diocese of Bath and Wells. In 2016 she was licensed as St Luke's Chaplain, alongside being Vocations Officer for the Diocese of Exeter, and then became Lazenby Chaplain full time in 2019. She looks after the Mary Harris Chapel and St Luke’s Chapel as well as being a member of the Multifaith Chaplaincy team.

Hannah is currently undertaking part-time Doctoral studies with the University of Chester alongside her Chaplaincy role. She is interested in the faith lives of Gen Z, and particularly the experience of young Anglicans. She is also interested in Chaplaincy-informed approaches to Anglican Ecclesiology, Vocational Discernment, Disability Theology and the theology of Art and Literature.

Hannah is on the leadership team of Open Table Exeter, providing a safe Christian space for LGBTQI+ people and their families and friends.

Hannah has a particular concern for students who feel on the edge of University life and are struggling to know where they fit (she once was one). She is always pleased to meet with students and staff for a chat. You don’t have to be a person of faith to meet with her, nor do you have to be going through a crisis – sometimes it’s just nice to sit and reflect on how life is going.

Outside of work and study, Hannah can often be found taxiing her three sons to sporting events.

Hannah can be found in the Multifaith Centre at Streatham Campus on Mondays 12-2pm and Tuesdays 10-12pm, and at St Luke’s Chapel (St Luke's Campus) on Thursdays.

The Lazenby Chaplain is the Church of England (also known as Anglican) Chaplain for Streatham Campus and (since June 2019) also St Luke's Campus in Exeter.

The Lazenby Chaplain is an Official of the University, appointed jointly by representatives of the University and the Diocese of Exeter, and funded by The Lazenby Trust which was set up from the estate of the late Katherine Maud Lazenby of Tiverton – hence the name!
