Tell us about your disability

We encourage you to declare your disability, specific learning difference, long term health condition, autism or mental health difficulty that may affect your studies with us. You can do this by filling out an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) Application as soon as possible so we can ensure it is in place when your studies start.

By telling us about your disability we can arrange to have the right support for you, so you can have the same chance of succeeding in your studies as your peers.

Read on to find out how and when to tell us about your disability.

At university, a disability means any health condition that has lasted or is likely to last, twelve months or more and may negatively impact your studies even if the frequency, severity or symptoms fluctuate.

This includes but is not limited to, long term health conditions, sensory impairments, mobility difficulties and mental health conditions (such as anxiety and depression). It also includes specific learning differences and other neurodivergence such as Autism and ADHD.

If you have, or think you might have, any of these or another disability, please contact us.

Declaring your disability to the University of Exeter in Cornwall allows us to consider what extra support is available to you and decide on what should be put in place to support you in reaching your academic potential. You are an important part of our learning community so we encourage you to declare your disability so we can enable the right support as soon as possible.

We want to remove any barriers disabilities may create in accessing education by using adjustments and additional support to give you the same chance as your peers at succeeding.

The Equality Act 2010 states that students with health conditions that meet the criteria of a disability are entitled to additional support.

Any data shared on health and disability is sensitive data under the Data Protection Act. If you tell us about your disability, this won’t be added to your degree certificate and we won’t tell your future employers.
